Building Envelope Study
The City of Tampa Police Headquarters is located at: 411 N. Franklin Street in Tampa and recently had a Building Envelope Study completed by Collman & Karsky Architects. The building is almost 50 years old and 12 stories, plus a penthouse, with curtain wall systems on 3 sides and a masonry wall with rain screen system on one side.
This study was to asses the structural condition of the wall systems and to predict the life expectancy before replacement is required. One of our Construction Administrators, Tom Thibaultis, is a Registered Roof Consultant, Registered Roof Observer and Contract Document Technician. Tom has been a valuable employee of Collman & Karsky Architects for almost 20 years and has achieved his building envelope certifications through self study and successful completion of national exams affording him expertise in a field of limited professionals.
In effort to determine the condition of the wall systems Tom and Harmon, Inc. from Orlando removed and re-installed existing portions of the systems from a scaffold over several days. Then they evaluated the findings and compiled a report for the City of Tampa, which made recommendations and estimated costs of repair or replacement for budgeting purposes.
